Writers' Contest
by flybynite
MSN's WomanCentral has an inspiring community Poetry Board. This month I offered a contest to write a poem that would speak of Life's Lessons.
The winner of the contest is Kathy "Kit" Leighty.
The winning poem is titled A Perfect Fall.
Kit has been posting on MSN WomanCentral Poetry board over a year and is one of the true nurturer's of that board, always taking the time to encourage other poets. She is a mother and stepmother of 5 and grandmother of 7 with the 8th one due in January. After the children left home, she began a career in Real Estate. She had lost touch with her writing talent but found it quickly again when she took on the position of Secretary for the Board of Realtors. She found herself editing and producing the montly newsletter.
She has such an insightful way of writing, I was not surprised to hear that she was also a singer/songwriter/church choir director/plays guitar and paints using watercolors and acrylics. She is currently working on a chapter book of poetry and still misses the poetry she lost in a house fire in 1989.
Comments and encouragement welcome on Skateboard's Writers Newsgroup!
A Perfect Fall
A quiet tone has set upon this place,
As fallowness prepares to take the land.
The sky has lost its' golden haze.
The moon has gained an autumn band.
The balmy breeze whips into a wintry wind.
Nests are abandoned for a southern flight.
A time of reflection to note the seasons end.
Vivid leaves flaunt to taunt the graying light.
I touch a quiet in myself, and find a simile
between my life and leaf floating through the air.
It is the harvest of the old that has been released
while new fruit waits to spring from branches bared.
