If music be the food of love...

It's said,
in not so many words
that music be the food of love
and with this might i agree,
If twas that i felt fed
when songs are played.

but love is not so simple
as to be fed by simple tunes
and requires something more
no lesser than a song,
yet nor as much as a miracle
but perhaps something
that lies betwixt the two.

by zounds i do wish
that with a simple melody
or a few well placed notes,
i could feed a person enough
so as to feed them
a false truth of my misplaced love
but i doubt that this is true
and my dream is, or could be real

yet then, if things like that be said
then usually deep within the words,
is there some basest truth
of inner humours, that's stirred
by notes and chords, and beats
that mimic the love that is rooted
within a persons heart and soul

And so, will I give this phrase
another chance to prove it's worth
as one which can be seen as true
and as long as there still be a chance
that it might be true, just one;
if music be the food of love
then let the band play on......
