Migo
With Migo software, you can take your computer, or part of it anyway, with you wherever you go. This is an easy-to-install program that installs onto a portable flash drive (there are tons of them out there and they all fit in the palm of your hand), and in minutes lets you collect your important files and vital information with only a few clicks of the mouse. You can set the software to synch up your Outlook or Outlook Express files and any other files you might want to work on while you’re away from your desk. This way you can easily collect, read, and respond to your email while away. For some of us this is a load off our minds because it gives us a chance to delete all the spam that collects in our mailboxes and takes up precious room. If you’re leaving town for an extended period of time, this program is a must-have - unless you want to spend several hours going through your email when you return.
Once installed, Migo will ask you what to synchronize onto the flash drive. Choose Outlook or Outlook Express, or both, depending on your accounts. Take note though, the software doesn’t actually install Outlook or Outlook Express (or any other program) on your flash drive. It only takes the files and folders that work within the programs. In order to access your email you will have to plug the flash drive into a computer that has Outlook or Outlook Express already installed. But these days, most computers in business centers are equipped with these programs. Migo will also let you take other files from within your computer. Select the files and folders you want to take with you as well as your email account, and then click on the “synchronize” button and in seconds everything is ready to go. It even takes a picture of your desktop theme so when you plug it into another computer, you’ll feel right at home. A meter will show you how much space Migo is using on your flash drive and how much space is available. Plus, the Quick Start Guide will guide you through the steps. It’s not difficult and anyone can use it, whether you’re a computer pro or not.
Okay, so you’ve done the initial setup and synchronization. What then? Well, it’s simple. When you get to another computer, plug in the flash drive and click on the Migo icon. After selecting the “Login” mode it will take a few moments and then you’ll see a little drop down option. When you click on that, your desktop theme and the files you selected will then be available for you to access. Note that some of the icons that will show up on the desktop are from the borrowed computer, however they will not be captured by Migo when you exit and leave that computer. Let’s just say that Migo is not hijacking the computer completely, but it is allowing you to access your email and your files. Migo simply lets you work on your files and your email, all with the feeling of your own computer. And, you will be able to use the software and hardware that is already installed on the borrowed computer, including Internet access.
When you are finished working simply exit from Migo. It will take a few moments to refresh your files, and then return the borrowed computer to the original state it was in before you began. Click on the option to safely remove the device and you’re ready to leave. The borrowed computer will be just as it was when you first sat down. And, the best part is there will not be any trace of anything you’ve done while connected through Migo. There will be no trace of cookies, Internet history, or anything you’ve done on the borrowed computer. Migo lets you work in a stealth mode, so to speak. So you don’t have to worry that your passwords and personal information are stored on the computer. Everything is stored on Migo, which is in your portable flash drive which you take with you.
Now, when you return home plug in the device and Migo will ask you if you want to synch up the files to your computer. In no time your email files will be updated and your files will include the most recent information. Migo has the option of synchronizing several computers, so you can take your home and your office computer with you when you go away. Unfortunately, Migo is so easy you won’t have any excuse not to catch up on your email or work while you’re away. However you can always say you didn’t find an internet café or a business center!
Remember, Migo cannot take your programs, so if you’re thinking about taking your Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro with you, you’re out of luck. So why do you need to put Migo on a flash drive, you might be asking. If all it does is take your files surely you can just copy your files onto the drive. Well, the Migo software sets up the files as they conform to the email programs. So once you access your email account through Migo, it haves your files in their correct locations. And it leaves no trace of your account on the borrowed computer!
In these days of high technology, it’s almost impossible to get away from computers, email, and work. And Migo makes it that much easier. Okay, so that might not be such a good thing, but it is handy!
