A Slice of Life

Shark Steam Mop
Like most people, I watch the commercials and info-mercials and wonder how good the products really are. I sent for the Shark Steam Mop to see if it is really as good as they say. I’ve had friends tell me that they love their Shark Steam Mop, so I put it to the test.
The mop is light weight and is easy to fill. Distilled water is recommended because chemicals in regular tap water will eventually clog up the system, although tap water can be used. If you use tap water, just make sure you clean the system once in awhile to get rid of any chemical buildup.
Attach one of the reusable microfiber pads on the bottom of the unit. These pads are machine washable so you don’t have to keep purchasing new pads. The unit does not use any cleaning solvents, only pure steam, which, as we know, is a disinfectant. So when you use this unit, you not only clean your floors, but you also kill the germs and bacteria, not to mention the dust mites that live on your floors and carpets. Since they are basically invisible, we usually forget about them, but they are there. And who wants to live with all those mites? They cause irritation and allergies.
Once you fill your mop it only takes a few seconds for the steam to start coming out. You’ll see it wafting out from the bottom of the mop. Then you’re ready to go! The long 20-foot cord allows you ample room to clean a large floor. While the mop cleans with its steam, it disinfects and dries instantly. This is a great feature if you have kids around. I remember when my mom used to clean the kitchen floor and I was not allowed into the kitchen until the floor was dry. It seems like it would never dry. But with steam cleaning, the floor is cleaned and dried at the same time.
If you have babies crawling on your floors, this is a much better way to keep it clean and sanitized. Who wants their baby crawling on harsh chemicals that are in cleaning products?
You’ll know the unit is working when you turn it over and see the dirt that has collected on the pad. And not only is the dirt gone from your floors, but it is sanitary, which is something I cannot refer to enough. Clean is one thing, but sanitized is additional peace of mind. Do you know all the germs that you track into your house on the souls of your shoes?
The Shark Steam Mop is safe for all hard floor surfaces. And there is a carpet glider that can be purchased for an additional cost. To me this is a great feature, however it is not a “carpet cleaner.” The company insists it is just a carpet refresher. I was a little disappointed with that fact because having a steam carpet cleaner would be wonderful. However, I did manage to remove some stains from a carpet and it did look great after I ran the unit over it a few times. I think this attachment is worth the additional cost, even though it is not a complete carpet cleaner. One of these days they might make a larger unit that is designed just for carpets.
The Shark Steam Mop lives up to its claims. It’s easy to use and cleans and disinfects your floors. Think of disinfecting your bathroom floor in just a few minutes, and the floor is dry when you are finished! This unit saves time, energy, and doesn’t subject your family to harsh cleaning chemicals. Just good old steam from good old H2O. No more wringing out mop heads, waiting for floors to dry, using chemical solvents on your floors, bending over to clean your floor, or worries about clean floors.
