A Slice of Life

Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker

Perhaps you’ve seen these at the store and wondered what they are all about. After all, they look like a fancy blender, and most of us already have a blender in our home. But the Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Makers are much more than plain old blenders. They perform three functions – shaving ice, blending, and shaving and blending. Instant party!

The top portion of the unit is designed for ice cubes, no matter what shape they are. Just dump your ice in the top and close the lid. Select “shave only” and the cubes get sliced very fine for the perfect Hawaiian Shave Ice. Then the ice shoots down into the blender. From there simply dump the ice into a container and pour on your favorite flavor and you have a delicious Hawaiian Shave Ice treat just like in the islands. Well, maybe not exactly like the islands. But if you add ukulele music and some tropical decorations you can have a Hawaiian holiday at your home.

Now, if you want more than plain shaved ice, here’s what you do. First pour your liquid ingredients into the blender part of the machine and then dump your ice in the top. Select “Shave and Blend” and the unit will quickly shave the ice, dump it into the blender and blend it all together for the perfect frozen daiquiri, pina colada, or margarita. The unit has automatic settings to add just the right proportion of ice and liquid ingredients for the best concoction this side of the border.

And if all you need is to blend something, this is a great blender too. You simply select “blend only” and away you go.

My favorite part of this machine is making my own ice blended mochas. Forget about stopping at those high priced coffee stores. Make your own for a portion of the cost. Actually, I went to the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and purchased their coffee extract and mocha powder and now am perfectly content making my own drinks any time I want. And it tastes just like the drinks they make at the store.

Making the tropical drinks is great and you can use only the main ingredients without the alcohol when you’re serving young children. But if you want to have a party, just add the booze and you’ve got yourself a drink machine that stands up to the professionals at the local pub. There are plenty of great recipes for libations at the website (margaritaville.com). But think outside the box. I’m going to try blending shaved ice with orange juice for a healthy drink with vitamin C during the cold and flu season. I’ve already blended shaved ice with a can of soda for my own style of Slurpee. Your imagination is your only limit. This machine is a workhorse and will do whatever you can dream up.

There are several different variations of concoction makers, so there’s definitely one for your lifestyle. Their newest addition is the Tahiti, which comes with three jars so you can keep the party going by having one with pina coladas, one with margaritas, and one with something else. Check out the website to find the right blender for you. And they each have a one year warranty.

If you love any of the blended drinks, you will definitely enjoy this machine. So Drink up. Here’s mud in your eye. L’Chaim. Salute. Down the hatch. Enjoy.
