Take one self proclaimed sex addict (Will Ferrell) and add one naïve young man (Jon Heder) and you have the making of a funny movie. But what happens when these men are both competitive figure skaters? It’s even funnier.
Flamboyant young Jimmy MacElroy (Heder) puts on quite a skating exhibition. He just about has the World Championship in the bag, but then comes along macho Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell) who earns a tying score. These two have completely different styles and personalities. And when the tie is announced they end up in a fight of another kind. Due to their unsportsmanlike conduct, they are both banned from men’s figure skating competitions – for life.
Several years later they discover a loophole. Their punishment does not apply to pairs competition. Even though the sport has never had a same-sex pair, it is not illegal. So the two skaters team up to once again skate competitively and live out their dreams of gold medals. However with their different styles and personalities, it’s not a match made in heaven. Their skating genius and talent take over, and with the help of technology, they perform jumps and stunts most normal skaters would never even consider or even conceive.
It looks like the team of MacElroy and Michaels might be the team to beat, however when the competition gets wind of it they stop at nothing to keep the new pair off the ice. Feeling that the double man team is making a mockery of their sport, and also simply wanting to win themselves, the reigning champions pull out all the stops to keep their competition from even getting to the ice.
This is a very funny film. It’s wacky slapstick comedy and filled with one laugh after another. With cameos by Brian Boitano, Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Sasha Cohen, Nancy Kerrigan, and a commentary role for Scott Hamilton, this is one hysterical movie. It’s Ice Castles meets Animal House!
