A Slice of Life

In Touch With . . . Kate Hudson

For over six years Kate Hudson has been lighting up the big screen with her beauty and talent. Her latest role as newlywed Molly Peterson in the comedy You, Me and Dupree has her fans electrified with a fantasy scene in which she wears a somewhat revealing swimsuit and high heels. Filming the provocative scene in San Pedro proved to be a little daunting for the actress and she laughs when she describes the incident that happened to her while on location. “We're shooting in San Pedro by an Army reserve, or Marine [base]. I don't know which one. But all of a sudden this chopper comes. … I've got like the diamond collar [on and the swimsuit] and everything and the heels. My hair's all [teased out]. All of a sudden we hear this huge crash. ... It turns out that my car, of all the cars and all the trailers that are there, this chopper came so low that a big plywood thing came falling onto my car from a rooftop.” She’s overly animated as she describes going out to investigate. All the cops and military personnel were there gawking at her. She is used to being stared at but when she realized she was in the provocative attire, she laughed. “It was really funny.” That will definitely give the onlookers something to talk about for years to come.

The new movie is about relationships. Ms. Hudson has been married to musician Chris Robinson for six years. “I knew what I was getting into with Chris. I knew the first week. I remember one of the first things I said to him was, ‘Tell me everything that you think I'm not going to like about you.’ And he went on for about an hour and a half,” she chuckles. “Then I still married him.”

About marriage and relationships Kate says, “Marriage, relationships, no matter if you're married or not, are never, ever easy.” She has a wonderful relationship with her parents, and says they “are a really good template on how to keep a relationship - through everything -good.” She credits their playfulness with their thriving relationship. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been together for well over 20 years. “No matter what, through everything, they play. They really play and they play really hard and they have a great time. That always keeps them passionate and enjoying each other” she says enthusiastically. “Relationships are so hard. They're crazy. But you just have to respect and love and have a good one. I feel really lucky. I got a really good one. I got one that keeps me on my toes.”

The couple has a two and a half year old son, Ryder, whom Kate thoroughly enjoys. “He's talking up a storm,” she says with a big grin. “It's amazing because at this age, it's like he's starting to create his own ideas. … Just watching him discover every part of himself, and especially his mind is just fantastic.”

Kate Hudson always has a smile on her face and warmth in her eyes. She is a delight to interview and has some great stories to share. Having grown up in “the industry,” she is savvy about dealing with journalists, but she is a genuine person who doesn’t put on airs and is completely down-to-earth. Charming, delightful, charismatic, and lovely are all words to describe her. Oh, let’s not forget pretty!
