Fashion Flashback
to the 1930s
by Perry Lowell
Spring of 1930 ushered in a penchant for suits for all but the most formal of daytime occasions.
Coats of this season's suits are hip length with a nipped in waistline or a separate or stitched on belt. Skirt lengths are three-quarters length, with pleats or slightly flared.
If blouses aren't tuck-ins, they are the new shorter over-blouse, stopping just at the top of the hips and made on its own belt. It may be short sleeved, to midway between shoulder and elbow, or sleeveless.
A close fit was important, and more and more clothing with zippers can be found.
