Many of us have cell phones more for security and emergencies than for heavy telephoning.
For whatever reason you have a cell phone, it's wise to follow this notice, I've had it from several sources. In case you missed it here it is:
Paramedics are trained and tuned in to check a person's cell phone for identifying family when necessary. SO, ICE = In Case of Emergency. Put an entry in your cell phone named ICE with the name and phone number the person the emergency services should call on your behalf. It can save them time and let your loved ones know what is happening. Remember ICE. Do it now while it's on your mind.

With the emphasis on high fibers and whole grains in your diet, consider picking up a package of WASA Crispbreads (really crackers) when you're at the grocery store. Use the as for spread, for dipping, for munching, and for crumbling into salads and other foods. WASA provides several quick, easy recipes that are perfect for packing in a lunch box, or for snacking any time.
Yummy, crunchy, and oh so healthy.
3 slices Havarti cheese, sliced thin
1/2 avocado, sliced thin
3 slices turkey breast
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 cup tomatoes, finely minced
2 tablespoons purple onion, finely minced
1 tablespoon Italian flat-leaf parsley, chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
3 pieces WASA Hearty Rye (may substitute any WASA variety)
combine olive oil, tomatoes, purple onion, parsley, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Mix and set aside. Place 1 slice of Havarti cheese, 1 slice of turkey breast, 3 thin slices of avocado on crispbread. Top with tomato and onion mixture. Note: You may substitute your favorite lunchmeat for turkey and favorite cheese for Havarti.

A tossed salad with a different bite to it.
1 (4 ounces) package mixed baby salad greens
1 cup fresh dates, chopped
1 tablespoon oats
1 cup toasted walnuts, coarsely chopped
3 tablespoons canola oil
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
6 pieces WASA Multi Grain crispbread
Coat dates by rolling in oats to prevent sticking together. Set aside. Place mixed greens in a salad bowl. Add walnuts, dates, canola oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper. Toss greens and serve as salad with crumbled WASA crispbread pieces or spoon onto individual whole crispbreads. Add chicken breast strips or other meat strips if desired.

And here's a bonus recipe
that will clear your palate.

1 cup water, ice cold
1 1/2 medium mango(.), or 1 large mango, peeled, pitted and chopped
1 Tablespoon sugar
2 piece mint leaves

2 tall glasses. Top each with a mint leaf. Yields about 1 1/2 cups per serving.

4. COOK BOOK REVIEW: BREAKFASTS & BRUNCHES
The Culinary Institute of America
BREAKFAST & BRUNCHES is a feast for the eyes and palates. Your mouth waters
just thumbing through the pages…especially if you're hungry. Here are 175
recipes from a teaching institution that trains a good percentage of the chefs
working today in restaurants around the county. Among the beauties of the book is
that most of the recipes are not involved and don't require a batch of esoteric
ingredients. Who wants to take hours to prepare a breakfast or brunch when time
is short and appetites are long?
There are the easy Quick breads and
loaf recipes that whip up pronto, wonderful drinks with just enough pizzazz
added to make them different. Some recipes take a little longer and are perfect
when you're having guests for brunch and need to give your menus some extra
tender, loving care.
There are breads and pastries,
pancakes, waffles and crepes, grains, meat, fish & potato dishes, and
soups, salads, and small bites. Plenty of recipes for sauces and toppings that
they suggest you mix and match with some of the other recipes. No hard and fast
rules, but enough leeway to add your own creativity.
The hardcover, 9 X 10" book
will be a welcome addition to your cookbook counter (don't put it in your
"collection"). Leave it out so you'll remember to delve into it
frequently..$35.00 ISBN 0 867309075. Use my link below to Amazon and search for
it by title.
Remember when one took their kids to the zoo to see the animals? Now the San Diego Zoo, rated one of the best in the country, is adding "amusement" to their offerings. This coming holiday season, the zoo is featuring a "Festival of Lights."
There will be more than 100,000
lights, ranging from strands of elegant white sparkling lights on palm trees to
enormous glowing light features. A 52-foot lighted train will glisten in Mombassa
Lagoon, while larger-than-life nutcrackers and toy soldiers, giant teddy bears,
rocking horses, exotic animals, gingerbread men, and more will create an
enchanting winter wonderland.
Other fun activities will simulate sliding down a snowy hill, holiday crafts, singing your favorite seasonal tune, storytellers, and dancers. Wild Animal Park admission prices are $28.50 for guests 12 and older, $17.50 for children 3 – 11, and free for children 2 years and younger. The festival will run from Dec. 9th to 23rd and the 26th to the 30th.. Check www.sandiegozoo.com. Can't get there? The zoo's Web sight is a delight with a live video cam of the new panda cub and other exhibits.
